Chapter Summary - EotW Earlier - Ravens

~by jaimeet

This is set when Egwene is 9 years old. The shearing of sheep is going on at Emond's field and Egwene is a water carrier. The whole village and lots of others from the surrounding farms are there. Egwene intends to be the best water carrier ever so that she can help with the food instead next year. She sees a raven acting unnatuarlly bold and the thinks of the DO's spies.

The shearing takes place in Widow Aynal's Meadow. she sees Kenley Ahan steals one of Corin Ayellin's honeycakes and is caught, she thinks he's as bad as Ewin Finngar.
Egwene sees Perrin with his parents, Deselle, Adora and his baby brother Paet. They are taling to Master Luhhan about Perrin becoming his apprentice. Cilia Cole is making calf eyes at Perrin who ignores her and plays with his sister. Egwene notices more ravens watching the meadow and she goes to get more water.

She sees the Wisdom, Doral Barran, and her apprentice of three years Nynaeve bandaging Bili Congar's leg. Nynaeve knows Egwene is there without even seeing her (because she once healed her). Egwene wants to tease Nynaeve about having stolen Mistress Ayellin's pie but decides not to.
Egwene searches for Mat and Perrin hoping to find Rand with them. Wil al'Seen tells her where to find them. Perrin and Mat are behind one of the pens with Rand">Rand, Dav Ayellin, Lem Thane, Bandry Crawe and Elam Dowtry. Bran al'Vere sends for the boys.

Egwene goes with the boys and finds the Village Council members are all shearing the sheep except for Master Cole who is napping.

Tam starts to tell a story of the Dragon and is interrupted by Cenn Buie saying that it not a story for children, Master Cole tells him to shut up. Tam talks about the AOL and the War of the Shadow, and how DO was freed and hordes of trollocs and myrddraal commanded by aes sedai who went over to the shadow the forsaken. The DO had almost won when LTT the DRAGON and his Hundred Companions went to Shayol Ghul and sealed the bore. Egwene sees many more ravens in the trees.

The next year Egwene still has to carry water but the year after she is allowed to help with the food a whole year early.

Chapter Summary- Eotw Prologue - Dragonmount
~by Lord Snow/NeoDragon

The palace still shook as the earth rumbled in memory...

Behold the first line in the series. Remember it.
We open with Mr. Lews Therin strolling around his palace looking for Ilyena, not knowing that dead bodies are strung about everywhere including Ilyena, the love of his life. This guy must be insane. Yup he is.

Lews Therin Telamon is a tall man in his middle years, his Hair more white than brown, and a face lined by strain and worry with dark eyes that have seen to much. (I wish we could see)

While Lews Therin is looking into the mirror, and laughing about it, the air ripples, shimmers, whatever into a man.

Now is this a different form of travelling? It's not a gateway that's for damn sure.

The man is clothed all in black, and not quite so tall as Lews himself. Here we meet ELan Morin Tedronai (Ishamael). Lews thinks he is a guest, and still yells for Ilyena to tell her about it. Ishamael realizes that Lews Therin is gone nuts and explains to him about how he used to wear the Ring of Tamyrlin, and he once summoned the 9 rods of Dominion, and how he defeated the Betrayer of Hope at Paaran Disen.

Of course Lews Therin has no idea what's going on, and he keeps looking for Ilyena. Finally Ishamael clears Lews Therin's head for a brief moment to let him have a few sane moments.

Lews Therin is sane enough to remember who the person standing before him is, and tells him about how the DO has wracked the world for the past 10 years, and Ishamael goes on to tell him that it has been going on since the beginning of time, blah blah blah, and that they have fought thousands and thousands of times.

Finally Ishamael points out that it was him that killed everyone he loved. Lews Therin looks around and realizes this and just goes completely bonkers again. He travels out to an open spot in the country next to a river. He channeled an immense amount of the One Power and kills him self with a huge flash of light and fire that came down from the heavens.

After it was all done a mountain was left in the spot where Lews Therin killed himself and the broad river was pushed into a curve away from the mountain, and there it split to form a long isLand in it's midst.

Chapter Summary- EotW Chapter 1 - An Empty Road
~by southpoop

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become Legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth comes again. In one age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an age long past, a wind....

Another line you should all have memorized.

We learn we are in the Two Rivers and it is Winter. Enter Rand al'Thor with his trusty bow and his father Tam. It is cold and windy, and the two are leading a cart of Apple cider pulled by Bela the horse. The winter had been the worse in ages, and the cold still hung on even though it was spring. They were headed to Emond's field because that night was winternight (the last night of winter) and tomorrow was Bel Tine, the first day of spring. Rand looks forward to seeing Egwene al'Vere, the mayor of Emond's field's daughter. We learn that Rand is much taller than his father and has red hair, supposedly from his mother, Kari al' Thor, an outlander. Suddenly Rand felt he was being watched, and he saw a black hooded rider watching him. The wind did not stir the rider's cloak and its stare was hatred. Then he tripped, and told Tam, and the rider was gone. Tam thought it was horsethief, but decided to be wary. Rand was really scared. Tam notices and tells him to remember the Flame and the void. This is where it is first described.

As Tam and Rand enter Emond's Field, preparations for festival are evident. We learn how stubborn and hardy Two River's people are. The Coplin's and congar's are introduced as complainers. Emond's field is described in detail.

Mat comes to talk to Rand about mischief, and they find out they both saw the rider. We also learn a Gleeman is in town. The chapter ends with them unloading the cider.

Chapter Summary- EoTW Chapter 2 - Strangers
~by Azrael

Rand and Mat are carrying barrels into the inn where some of the village council, Tam al'Thor, Bran al'Vere (the Mayor), Haral Luhhan, Jon Thane, Cenn Buie are talking in the common room. They seem both impatient and worried which is not unusal these days.

Mat does not want to catch master Luhhan's eye. He has recently played a prank involving the Luhhans' dogs and some flour after telling some friends about ghost hounds in the woods. They are finishing the unloading of the barrels when Ewin Finngar comes running to report strangers in the village.

There are two strangers, a man and a woman.
The woman, called Moiraine is 'a high-born lady' in a blue cloak, and her companion Lan is a dangerous looking man who wears a cloak which seems to change colours.
Mat confirms that they arrived the previous evening and are staying in the inn. According to Ewin, Moiraine has apparently angered the village wisdom Nynaeve by calling her 'child'

Back in the inn, Rowan Hurn and Samel Crawe, the final members of the council have arrived.
Outside, Ewin refuses to believe Mat that there is a gleeman in town while Rand gets the feeling that he is being watched. He looks around to find a raven staring at him. Mat also feels he's being watched and the pair throw stones at the bird. It dodges out of the way and continues
staring. They hear a voice declare it 'a vile bird' and as the startled animal flies away, turn and see the Lady Moiraine standing in the street.

Rand thinks that she looks gracefull and commanding. He cannot guess her age and, unlike the local women, has her hair unbraided. Her clothes are strange, and she wears a ring on her finger in the shape of a serpent biting it's own tail.

Rand, Mat and Ewin introduce themselves and are each given a silver coin for a few jobs that the Lady may need doing. Rand asks why Moiraine has come to Emond's Field, and is told that she is a student of history. She leaves and is followed by a man identified by Ewin as Lan. Rand and Mat discover that they have been given much more valuable coins than Ewin and vow not to spend them. As the boys discuss the gleeman who has come to the village, a Peddler's wagon arrives in the town.

Chapter Summary - EoTW Chapter 3 - The Peddler
~by Tularis

The chapter starts with the arrival of a peddlar known as Padan Fain. We all know what he will eventually become of course, but at the moment he is an attraction to the people of Two Rivers, something to marvel at. The presence of Peddlar is quite a spectactle, and they are not wanted only for the goods, but also the news and information they bring from outside the world of Two Rivers.

The information that Mr Fain brings forth is of chaos and misery. According to him, the Two Rivers harsh season is nothing compared to the war that has stirred in Gheldean, a country just west of Two Rivers over the Misty Mountains. Someone has proclaimed himself the Dragon, and many have flocked to his banner.

This news bought forth many a exclamations from the surrounding crowd. No one quite dismissed it as nonesense though, because Padan Fain was known for his accuracy, if morbid news. Many decided though that the Dragon must be false. Surely, a real one couldn't come along. Later on, Mat would recount a story he got from a woolbuyers guard about the Dragon coming when the world is in need. For now though, people just babble angrily at one another about the Dragon and the dark One. Padan Fain confirms an outburst from the infamous Cenn Buie that Aes Sedai have jouneyed south to try and stop this false dragon, who can truly wield the true power and lightning sprouts from his fingertips, but at the moment the ageless women have thus been unsuccessful.

Bran Al'vere, the Mayor of Emonds Field, declares the news a matter of importance for the Council, and invites Padan Fain inside to talk more about the war in Gheldean. The peddlar accepts, and admits a loud chrous of protests from the remaining crowd, he follows the Council.

Eventually, only three boys - Rand, Mat and Perrin are remaining. Perrin recounts how he saw a man in black riding a dark horse, but his master blacksmith dismissed it as wolves, despite the fact that he started carrying around his biggest hammer.

Nynaeve and Egwene make an appearence, and we get a view of their long stubbornness which will go down in WOT folklore. Egwene has recently become a 'woman' by Two Rivers definition, and she of course flaunts this. They both overhear the boys story and dismiss it as nonsense.

The chapter ends with the arrival of a shaggy white-haired man bursting from the inn. Thom Merrilin Merliin.

Chapter Summary- EoTW Chapter 4 - The Gleeman
~by Isuldur

Well at the beginning of this chapter
Thom Merrilin gets kicked out of the inn, and Egwene, Rand, Mat, and Perrin gather around him. Rand notices his eye color and muses if there was a place where everyone has light eyes then it goes on to where Thom Merrilin complains about the two rivers, and such.

Rand is very polite early in the series he attempts to apologize for the mayor and the council because they are deciding what to do about the war in Ghealdan. Thom Merrilin asks Egwene to be his assistant when he performs for the town and gives them a demonstration of his abilities, then tells of the story he will tell. Then Moiraine shows up and he immediately shuts up and puts his stuff away with the crowd complaining for more and then Moiraine addresses him as master bard. Thom Merrilin at this point is obviously uncomfortable with her, then the village council comes out giving him a chance to escape.

Nynaeve states that she severely dislikes Moiraine and Lan being there. Bran explains that they are not a problem as of the moment.

Mat, Perrin, and Rand talk with Tam about the meeting. Tam tells Rand they have to go back to the farm to do some stuff they will be back tomorrow. The boys all decide to join the watch and they discuss the black rider and how to tell the council about it. Then on the way home Tam tells Rand that they believe him because 4 or five young men saw the black cloaked rider which relieves Rand's fear a lot cause he believes that there is nothing that the two rivers people can't do together.

Well I just wanted to make note that the second time I read through this chapter I noticed a few things

1
Thom Merrilin recognized Moiraine as Aes Sedai when he first saw her

Chapter Summary- EoTW Chapter 5 - Winternight
~by Isulder

This chapter opens with
Rand and Tam arriving at the farmhouse.  Rand thinks about how most people think it is just as strange that him and Tam live alone as that they farm in the Westwood. Him and Tam did a few chores before dinner and while Rand was getting ready he heard Tam getting a chest that had never been gotten out.  When Tam came down he was wearing the heron marked sword which Rand thought look amazing, yet it brought up questions, like why would his father have a sword.

Then.... there was was knock at the door. When Tam answered, what was there was larger than any man Rand had ever seen. Rand was actually relieved though because it was not the black cloaked rider. Then he noticed the rams horns on this beast's head and in the space of one breath he let out a yell and threw the kettle at the monsters head. Tam finished it off then told Rand to run to the woods. Rand ran with a dozen of the half human shapes chasing after him, while Tam held the rest off. He hid behind the barn for a while then decided to sneak out. After a few steps Tam caught him telling him, they must be quiet because trollocs hear very well. Rand was shocked he had thought trollocs were just a legend.

Rand went back to the house.  A trolloc he killed there said a fade wanted him. He got some things to help tend to an injury Tam had received fighting off the trollocs. Then returned to Tam, and bandaged his wounds. As the chapter ends Rand gets Tam and sets off for Emonds Field to find the wisdom cause she is Tam's only hope.

Chapter Summery - EotW Chapter 6 - The Westwood
~by Shmuggles

The chapter begins with Rand washing and dressing the wound that Tam recieved from the Trollocs. Tam starts having feaver dreams and thinks he is talking to his wife. Rand quiets Tam and gets him on a make shift litter, buckles on Tam's sword and begins to drag him to Emond's Field.

Rand begins the trek down the Quarry Road, but soon realizes that if he is followed that is where they will look for him, so he takes to the forest. As Rand slowly makes his way Tam begins babbling in another fever dream. "They came over the Dragonwall like a flood and washed the Land with blood. How many died for Lamen's sin?" Tam continues on about the nations underestimating these people, and the destruction of Cairhien.
Rand manages to get Tam quiet just in time. A Fade, leading a group of trollocs is on the Quarry road. The column moves on without seeing RandRand begins to move again when suddenly the Fade returns peering into the forest. It doesnt see Rand and moves on again.  Rand moves along quickly until his fatigue catches up to him.

After awhile Tam speaks up again, talking about Avendesora. Then he changes to talking in broken sentences about finding a baby crying in the snow and bringing it home to his wife. He agrees with his wife that Rand would be a good name.  With this Rand collapses to his knees, trying to convince himself that it was all a fever dream and that Tam really was his father. Trying to ignore what Tam had just said Rand gets back up and continues towards Emond's Field.  As much as he tries though, he can not get Tam's words out of his head.

Chapter Summary- EotW Chapter 7 - Out of the Woods
~by Iolaus13

The chapter begins with Rand arriving to find that Emond's Field has also been attacked by the trollocs, and that many houses have been burned down. Master Luhhan sees him, and helps him carry Tam to Nynaeve who, with Egwene's help, is caring for the wounded. She says that there is nothing she can do for him. Rand then takes Tam to the inn, where he thinks the mayor can help him.  After Bran al'Vere helps him get Tam into a bed there, Rand finds out from him that Mistress Moiraine and Lord Lan, are actually an Aes Sedai and her Warder. The mayor suggests that he might take the chance of asking her to help, since the stories say that Aes Sedai can heal. Lacking any other choice, Rand goes to find Moiraine. He finds her and Lan examining and disposing of the dead trollocs, and offers to pay any price in his power if she would help Tam.

The chapter ends with Rand, Moiraine, and Lan on their way back to the inn.

Chapter Summary EOTW Chapter 8 - A Place of Safety
~by Sorilea

Rand entered the room where Tam had been taken, followed by Moiraine and Lan, at which point Thom Merrilin left. Lan expressed his distrust of Thom Merrilin. The Mayor left as Moiraine stared at Tam.  Lan asked Rand about Tam's sword, and explained the significance of the heron mark. When Rand asked about the frightening man in the woods, Moiraine joined in the conversation and told Rand that Trolloc blades were tainted, and that she would be using an angreal to help her Healing.

While she is Healing Tam, Lan told Rand about Trollocs and Myrddraal. Moiraine finished healing Tam, and told Rand that they would have to leave Emond's Field, and that while there had been a lot of damage to the village, only certain places had been actual targets: places where Rand, Mat, and Perrin could have been. She suspected that there was something in one or all three boys that the Dark One was interested in. She suggested Tar Valon as a possible destination, and Rand reluctantly agreed. Moiraine insisted on leaving after dark, and that if Tam had not awakened by then, Rand would have to leave a note. Moiraine and Lan then left to find Mat and Perrin, and a moment later Master and Mistress al'Vere came in with food for Rand. They were able to confirm Moiraine and Lan's version of the previous night's events. Mistress al'Vere encouraged Rand to eat and get some sleep, and then left. Rand had wanted stay awake in case Tam woke up, to explain what was going on, but very soon fell asleep.

Chapter Summary- EoTW Chapter 9 - Tellings of the Wheel
~by selene

Rand is sleeping by Tam's side in the inn and has his first Dark One related nightmares.  In his dream he is running from the DO, he sees the Mountain and the IsLand, sees Tar Valon and the White Tower where he is greeted by a Fade.  He wakes up and eats a warm meal.  Soon Tam wakes up and Rand tells him everything, about Moiraine and Lan and the fact that he had to leave Emond's field tonight. Tam tells him to keep the sword as Lan hurries him out. They go down to the common room to meet up with Mat

Through the door of the common room, Rand and Lan peep out to see Moiraine facing the angry Emond Fielders as they ask her to leave and blame her for the trollocs. Bran al'Vere and Haral Luhann however take her side. Moiraine then casts a powerful light from her staff and accentuatig her voice tells the Emond Fielders the story of Manetheren and Aemon and Elderene, about how the army of Manetherene was the bravest there ever was and how they perished when their own Land was attacked by an impossibly large host of the DO, headed by Ba'alzamon.

She tells them about the betrayal Aemon faced, how he died and how Elderene avenged his death by drawing onto the source and destroying the enemy completely and herself too as a result of weilding too much of the power. Moiraine tells them what Manetherene once was and what it was now. The Emond Fielders retreat (a little sheepishly) after her story.

Lan then leads Mat and Rand out of the common room. And Rand "trying to convince himself that he was beginning a gRand adventure follows them through the darkened kitchen into the stableyard"..where you will see that Perrin awaits them .

Chapter Summary EOTW Chapter 10 - Leavetaking
~by mccoythelegend

Mat, Rand and Lan enter the stables from the kitchen. Perrin is waiting for them, and assures Lan that he checked to see if anyone was around like instructed. Lan reiterates that Moiraine said to hurry and rushes to the horses to check if Perrin has saddled them right. The three boys talk quietly between themselves, and Mat notices that Rand is wearing Tam's sword. He teases him about becoming a Warder, and Perrin grows uncomfortable.  Probably due to the Battle Axe he has hidden on his hip, a gift from Haral Luhhan - who couldn't think of anything else to do with it.

Lan warns them that the weapons will be likely necessary before reaching Tar Valon, probably to shut Mat up if anything. Rand mentions that he asked the Mayor if any other farms had been attacked - disobeying Moiraine - and it comes out that Perrin and Mat have only left notes for their relatives. Moiraine appears in the Doorway, and they prepare to leave, when Egwene suddenly appears. There is a small argument about her going along with them, and Moiraine surprisingly accedes to her wishes.  Lan decides that Thom Merrilin's horse is fittest for her to ride, and then Thom Merrilin comes down out of the loft - the only place Perrin failed to look. Thom Merrilin decides to accompany them, on the premise of wanting to perform in Tar Valon. Rand saddles Bela for Egwene to ride, and they leave the stables.

Leading the horses out of the village, they are startled by an owl, and Lan explains that Wolves are natural enemies of Trollocs and the two species cannot abide each others presence. They hide in shadows as a militia formed from villagers marches by, looking for more Trollocs. As the party mounted their horses, a Draghkar flew across the horizon. Moiraine decides that due to the Myrddraal having the Draghkar at it's disposal, a cross country route would not be best for leaving the area, so they gallop up the North Road.

Chapter Summary - tEotW Chapter 11 - The Road to Taren Ferry
~by Samitsu

Rand, Mat, Perrin, Thom Merrilin and Egwene, leave Emond's Field in the night, with Lan & Moiraine leading the way. After several hours of riding, they arrive at Watch Hill, where they take a short rest, and Moiraine refreshes the horses. They are then spotted by the draghkar, which sets them off running again. They stop again when they reach Taren Ferry. Lan approaches the ferry owner's house, and pounds on the door till he wakes. Lan pays him a ludicrous amount of gold to ferry them to the other side of the river.

Chapter summary - tEotW Chapter 12 - Across the Taren
~by jaimeet

Rand and gang have all just reached the ferry Landing, and Master Hightower arrives with 6 men. Once on the other side Moiraine wrecks the ferry and covers the river with a fog to misdirect the draghkar to search for them along the river instead of across it. Moiraine says that no more than 10 aes sedai could do it as well as her.  They camp for about an hour and Moiraine teaches Egwene about the power, Egwene is excited. She explains the nature of the source and the taint on Saidin, mentioning the Red Ajah.  Egwene and Moiraine do a few novice exercises and Moiraine confirms that Egwene can channel.

Note
1. Rand shivers when the ferry is sunk -- reaction to saidar??
2. Thom Merrilin growls at the mention of the Red Ajah -- Owyn and his personal grudge.

Summary - Chapter 13 - Choices
~by McCoythelegend

Moiraine removes all the weariness from the party and they get a nights sleep. The following evening Lan begins weapon drills with the boys, testing them all first with the bow, with which they all kick ass anyway, and then giving Perrin drills with his axe, and Rand some concept of basic sword forms. Egwene removes the braids from her hair, stating that as an Aes Sedai she won’t have to. This pisses Rand off.

Two nights later, Rand eavesdrops on Moiraine teaching Egwene about the five powers, Moiraine tells Egwene that there was another channeler in the Two Rivers. Thom Merrilin teaches the boys some Gleeman’s tricks.  Mat seems the most apt pupil, being able to juggle with four objects before the other boys.

Arriving in Baerlon; the children are amazed at the size of the “city”. This amuses Thom MerrilinLan and Moiraine use the aliases Andra and Alys in Baerlon.  Avin, a gate guard, recognises them and tells Lan that the Whitecloaks are in town.  He also says that Logain has renamed his army the “People of the Dragon” and marched them upon Tear. Thom Merrilin tells the boys that this is in fulfilment of the prophecies in the Karaethon Cycle, regarding CalLandor – the Sword that cannot be touched. They arrive at the Stag and Lion Inn, where the Landlord, Fitch, welcomes Moiraine, and they proceed in to the Inn.

Summary - Chapter 14 - The Stag and Lion
~by McCoythelegend

The boys and Thom Merrilin go for a bath, while Moiraine goes to talk with someone named Min. The bath attendant brings up discussion of Trollocs in Saldea, and Mat is about to blab to him about the whole story about the chase from the Two Rivers. The others try to hush him, but the little retard can’t get the hint until Lan comes in and sends the attendant away. Lan then has a go at Mat, as the Dark One has spies everywhere.

When Rand falls asleep that night, he has a dream featuring the man with eyes of fire again. The man tries to get Rand to drink from a goblet, but Rand refuses. The man names himself as Ba’alzamon. He tells Rand that he is leashed to the White Tower. That his parents were pre-selected. He adds that they will use him as they currently use Logain. As they used Davian and Yurian Stonebow, Guaire Amalasan and Raolin Darksbane.  Rand tries to force him to wake; yet he cannot. Ba’alzamon then tells Rand that anything can happen in a dream, and to iterate his point, kills a large rat. Rand eventually wakes from the dream, and goes back to sleep.

Chapter summary - TEotW Chapter 15 - Strangers and Friends
~by Samitsu

We start out with Rand sleeping in the Stag & Lion. Rand dashes to the kitchen, and witnesses Master Fitch, and his cook Sara arguing over her cat, and the dead rats in the inn. Rand begins to eat, and Sara tells him about the incident her and Fitch were arguing about. He recognizes the way the rats were killed, from his earlier dream with Ba'alzamon. He then finds Perrin, and discusses the dream, and they learn that they both had the same one.

Rand decides to go see the city, while Perrin stays in bed. Rand is a bit overwhelmed by the city, and decides to sit outside the inn instead of wandering off. He is then approached by Min. She tells him about her special ability, and about the danger she sees ahead for Rand and his friends. He runs away from Min, because of the things she tells him, and out into the street.  After wandering around for a bit, he runs into Fain, who seems to be in a state of hysteria. After a brief talk, Fain runs away, and Rand chases after him, and runs right into Mat, knocking him down. Mat and Rand discuss the dream, Min, and Fain, after which they notice Whitecloaks walking down the street.  Mat plays a practical joke on them, by breaking open a cart of barrels, causing mud to be splashed all over them. Rand can't help but laugh at them, and the Whitecloaks try to interrogate him. Just before the confrontation comes to blows, the Town Watch arrives, and the Whitecloaks leave before they get "dealt with".  After the incident, they meet up with Thom Merrilin, and preceed to tell him about the dream. Thom Merrilin advises them not to tell Moiraine about it. As the three head back to the inn, Perrin rushes up, and tells them that Nynaeve is there, after following them from the Two Rivers. After a quick discussion they decide it would be best just to confront her, and they head inside the inn.

Summary – Chapter 16 – The Wisdom
~by McCoythelegend

They walk in to the Inn, Rand is about to let fly at why he shouldn’t go back, when Min tells Rand her viewing of Nynaeve suggests that she is a part of what is happening with the Two Rivers folk. Min also states that when Nynaeve arrived the danger to the party increased.

Lan is impressed that Nynaeve was able to follow the tracks of the party, as he thought he’d thoroughly erased them. Nynaeve tells the kiddies that just about everyone in Emond’s Field wanted to be part of the rescue party, especially Rand and Mat’s Dads and Haral Luhhan.

Moiraine talks with Nynaeve trying to persuade her to accompany the group, but Nynaeve is indecisive as she goes for a bath.

Summary – Chapter 17 – Watchers and Hunters
~by McCoythelegend

Rand walked in to the Common Room of the Inn, where Thom Merrilin was giving a performance. Rand and Perrin decide to take part in a set dance, leaving Mat to mind their possessions.  As Rand was dancing, a scar-faced man caught his eye, and then started scowling at him.  Rand’s seventh partner in the dance was Nynaeve, and he stumbled through his steps, which Nynaeve mocked as she moved on. Then he turned and found himself dancing with Moiraine, and made a complete tit of himself, fluffing the steps. After the dance, the boys chatted about the scar-faced man.

Lan said that the man was a spy for the Whitecloaks. Lan warned the boys to be ready to leave at a moments notice through the night and everyone left Rand as he went to get some milk from the kitchen. As Rand exited the kitchen, a Myrddraal came down the corridor towards him, asking where the other party members were. Lan comes bounding down the stairs and the Fade disappears into the shadow in the corridor.

The group flee the Inn, and make there way to the gates of Baerlon. The gate guard makes to open the gates, but some Whitecloaks (including Dain Bornhald) try to take the party to their camp for questioning. Moiraine uses the power to grow immense in her saddle, and once Bornhald realises what she is, he springs to attack. Moiraine uses the power to throw back the Whitecloaks and the party flees in to the night. As they depart, they see Flames over Baerlon. Most likely coming from the Inn.

Chapter Summary -TEoTW- Chapter 18 - The Caemlyn Road
~by Maeric Baylen

The party continues on the road to caemlyn. Three days out, they hear the wailing of a Trolloc hunting horn. The horn is answered by others. As the party gets ready to run again, Lan heads back west to find out how close the Trollocs are. Moiraine refers to him as the last Lord of the Seven Towers.(1) The others go on east. Lan returns shortly to report that they are being followed by 500 Trollocs. The horns sound again, answered this time by others in front of them. Moiraine and Lan take the party north. The party tops a hill and runs right into a party of Trollocs with a Fade. They attempt to break thru the line and a battle ensues. Mat shouts in the Old Togue.(2) Lan ends the battle by killing the Fade. The Trollocs all die because they are linked to the Myrddraal. The party rides out again only to have to stop again as they are caught from behind by a Trollocs and three Myrddraal. Moiraine causes and earthquake and then a wall of fire to stop the pursuit. They flee again, and the Moiraine uses the Power to create a false trail to confuse pursuit. They continue on north, and enter into Shadar Logoth.

1. This is the first reference to Lan being the lost king of Malkier.
2. This is also the first time we hear the Old Tongue from Mat (Carai an Caldazar. Carai an Ellisande. Al Ellisande)

Chapter Summary - EotW Chapter 19 - Shadow's Waiting
~by Rhand

While Moiraine is resting from the ride, Mat convinces Rand and Perrin that he should explore Shadar Logoth, which they know only under the name Aridhol. The three of them enter a building to search for treasures Mordeth tells them that he needs them to help him carry the treasure he found to his horses. They agree to help him, but when they're done with the treasure, Rand sees that Mordeth has no shadow. He says so much and Mordeth swells up and then dissapears. The three run back to the others who were worrying about them. Lan had gone out to search for them, but while doing so he finds out that there are Trollocs in Shadar Logoth. They plan to cross the river, or hail a traders boat, since Trollocs and Myddraal loathe deep water.

Nynaeve awakens next to her horse. She curses her stupidity in sleeping, and as she gets her bearings, some Trollocs run by. The Trollocs sniff the air, running off in the opposite direction to Nynaeve. It appears they weren’t after her. She followed mixed tracks, hoping to find Egwene and the boys. She smells wood smoke in the air, and follows it to its source. Nynaeve hides as she hears a horse approach, but it is LanNynaeve eavesdrops on Lan telling Moiraine that the Myrddraal had left with the Trollocs. Lan is concerned that the Trollocs managed to bypass the Blight border in such large numbers.  Moiraine tells Nynaeve to come out of hiding, and Lan is pissed that he didn’t notice her.  Moiraine explained to Nynaeve that she had sensed her, as she was able to channel.  Nynaeve disagrees, but admits that once Egwene had recovered from an illness that would have been fatal, at least in Nynaeve’s eyes.  The next week, Nynaeve collapsed with a short lived, though severe fever.  Moiraine tells her that she channelled and that she needs instruction so that she doesn’t harm herself or others – and so does EgweneMoiraine decides to travel downriver after Mat and Rand, as they have lost her coins, so she cannot locate them. Nynaeve is upset at having to abandon Egwene in the hope that she is safe with Perrin, and vows to learn control of the power - if only to use it against Moiraine.

Perrin awakes. He scrambles up and grabs his axe. He then begins to look downriver to see if Egwene has made it across further downriver. Perrin, while commando rolling through bushes, notices a hoof print with Master Luhhan’s trademark horseshoe. He follows the tracks and crashes through some bushes to come across Egwene, crouched behind a fire holding a club. Egwene explained that Bela helped her cross the river.  Perrin – with cunning use of reverse psychology – decides that as everyone is heading for Whitebridge, they wont as the Trollocs wont expect it – this boy is as sharp as an Anvil folks. They decide to head for Caemlyn across country instead, and if Moiraine doesn’t find them by then, Perrin wants to go to the Amyrlin seat instead.

The chapter starts with Perrin and Egwene (now alone since they fled Shadar Logoth).  They have a disagreement over who is gonna ride Bela, they end up taking shifts (brilliant, huh).  As Egwene is making a fire, Perrin catches a rabbit that crosses his path.  As he is walking back, he sees Egwene kneeling before a set of branches laid out for a fire with her eyes closed.  He asks what she's doing he finds out she wanted to try and kindle the fire with the Power.  He doesn't like the thought of it and strongly suggests that he make a fire the old fashioned way, which he does after which they cook and eat the rabbit.  In the next few days food is becoming more and more scarse leaving their stomachs less then satisfied.  Perrin has dreams of Ba'alzemon and Egwene of Shadar Logoth.

Egwene smells a fire where rabbit is being cooked and they cautiously approach it. Perrin tells her to wait while he investigates. He spots a man dressed in animal hides.  Perrin talks to him the man knows that a girl is with Perrin and tells him he means them no harm.  Perrin then calls Egwene to join them.  The man introduces himself as Elyas Machera, Perrin is startled by the man's golden eyes. They then mercilessly attack the food Elyas has.  After which they explain they are going to Caemlyn.  They ask him to be they're guide but are soon silenced by the coming of wolves, Elyas's "friends". Elyas tells them off his communication-skills with the wolfes. Elyas says that Perrin can talk to wolves, Perrin thinks he's nuts.  They lie to him about what they are doing there, and Elyas knows that and makes them tell the truth which they do, Elyas explains that wolves hate trollocs and Myrdhraal and that he'll guide them.

This chapter starts with Rand dreaming, he spots the vague form of Ba'alzemon in the distance and realizes he is in a maze of sorts, he then remembers hearing that you can get out of a maze by always going in the same direction, which he does.  After a few turns he suddenly stands face to face with Ba'alzemon who says to Rand that he is his bitch (though not in these words exactly).

Ba'alzemon then says to Rand that the eye of the world will not serve him and that he must yield. To which Rand shouts:"This is only a dream". after a few seconds more of quality Ba'alzemon time he wakes up on board of Bayle Domon's ship ""Spray". Appearantly Domon is making his crew work very hard to make good speed, reminding them of the Trollocs that were on board and might come again if they don't hurry.

Gelb (the guy that was on watch when the trollocs attacked but fell asleep) tries to convince the crew that Rand and co. are the cause of it all, they do not pay any heed to him, cus they think it's his fault for sleeping on the job.  Thom Merrilin is worried about a mutiny that could happen judging by the crew's emotional state.  Since they told everyone that Mat and Rand were apprentices of Thom Merrilin he decides to teach them stuff to maintain they're cover.  Later as Rand is watching the shore he notices a tower of metal.  He and Mat then discuss the strange things in the world with Domon like:  A giant fist clutching a sphere at Tremalking and bones of creatures long gone in Tanchico.

Four days later Rand is sitting on a mast of the ship, on sudden inpulse he performs some stunts on the masts. He then realizes everyone is looking at him when Thom Merrilin urges him to get down.  He then jumps of the mast and makes a rather spectacular finish for all the people watching the Rand 1-man freakshow.  Everybody claps vigourisly after that.  As he is straightening himself he holds on to Mat and notices Mat has a Dagger with a large Ruby on it, Mat also seems to be muttering under his breath. When Rand inquires about that Mat says he took it from Shadar Logoth and makes Rand promise not to tell anyone. Rand asks Mat if he's been having any dreams which Mat reluctantly says he has. After scolding Rand a tad, Thom Merrilin says he didn't think Rand had such and i quote" a good head for heights", and suggests using that in they're acts. at the end of the chapter Rand says he really has to get to Tar Valon after this or he'll surely go mad .

~by Lord Ravear Mandragoran

Perrin, Elyas and the wolves are walking, while Egwene rides Bela saying to Elyas that he is next to ride Bela.  Elyas says his legs are good enough and that the horse would't like riding him anyway, Egwene whines some more saying that he MUST ride, Elyas gives her "the look" and she backs away and doesn't mention it again.  Perrin thinks some more over the fact that he can hear the wolves in his head now.

They then encounter dogs(mastiffs to be precise), which snarl and bark at them, Elyas calms them down and says that they are Tinker dogs.  As they approach the Tinker camp Elyas greets they're leader(seeker a.k.a madhi) named Raen and they obviously know each other.  It is also clear that Elyas doesn't like to be around Tinkers much or humans in general.  As they are all welcomed , they sit with Raen and his wife Ila.  Just then Ila and Raen's grandson walks in, a very goodlooking young man by the name of Aram who seems very taken by Egwene.  What follows next is a conversation about the Way of the Leaf between Perrin and company.  And Perrin clearly disagrees with their way.  Aram then takes Egwene away to show her around, dance a bit and eat with his parents. Raen then tells about a young dying Aiel-women the Tinkers encountered in the waste, that even though she is as every Aiel was disgusted by Tinkers crawled to them to tell them a cryptic message about Sightblinder wanting to destroy the great serpent and the eye of the world.  Perrin also learns that Aiel woman can fight alongside men which he finds most peculiar.
After a long time Egwene comes back and Perrin says she had been gone a long time and that she should better stay away from Aram since she should know better. Egwene then says Aram is a nice boy and makes her laugh, to which Perrin says he's sorry, she should have fun, since those times are so hard to come by nowadays. What then follows is a emotional moment between Perrin and Egwene as she worries about the others and he assures her they are fine.
